Migration: From Poland to Germany 3

Q: What was it like initially in a totally different country?

A: Very difficult because I could not speak the language and did not know at all what I should do. You see, I couldn't work straightaway as I knew no German, but I went to school and learnt the language and then started to work some time later.

Q: Did you quickly get into contact with Germans?

A: No, not at the beginning, because I was afraid of German culture. But the Germans also avoided me. This gradually stopped. I found German friends and am still friends with them.

Q: In how far did you have to adapt to your surroundings?

A: I have not adapted radically to German culture. I have kept my religion, although there are a few things that I see differently now that I live in Germany.

Q: Are you the only one of your family who lives here in Germany?

A: No, my brother's sons live in Frankfort and my other brother lives in Essen.

Q: Are you thinking of returning one day?

A: Yes, as soon as my children have grown up and can support themselves. I have enough money today to survive there. What I don't know is if I can get used to the lifestyle there again. I will see.
